Stand Up Against Bullying in La Crosse
Stand Up Against Bullying in La Crosse

Mayor Matt Harter proclaimed February 26, 2010 "Stand Up Against Bullying Day" in
La Crosse.

Mayor Harter visited Longfellow/SOTA II on Friday morning to speak to the students & staff of Longfellow/SOTA II. Students and staff throughout the school district of La Crosse were able to watch the event via television.

Jerrilynn Donley and 6 Degrees have initiated an anti-bullying program that educates staff, students, and community members about the effects of bullying on both the victim and the bully. Through their efforts, the Mayor has chosen Feb. 26, 2010 as "Stand Up Against Bullying Day".

Students and staff also took a pledge in an effort to make everyone aware of bullying and to remind everyone to help if they see bullying occurring. Students and staff were given bracelets saying "I Got Your Back" as a reminder to treat others kindly.

8th Grade Battle of the Books

The 8th graders have been busy book battling this week. The final battle took place on Wednesday, March 3rd during Resource.

The two teams competing were the Scarlet Ladies (Sylivia, Erin, Jessica, Sophie) and the Reading Robins (Hudson, Al, Adam, Ben). Both teams did well in the first two rounds. Reading Robins had a score of 141 and Scarlet Ladies had a score of 112.

For the final, teams start from scratch. The questions were more challenging. After ten questions, both teams were tied. This is the first year that we've ended the season with a tie. Congratulations to both teams for a job well done!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Our 3rd Annual Seuss Celebration took place on March 4th & 5th. In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, students and staff at Longfellow/SOTA II Middle School had the opportunity to enjoy some reading time in the LMC. The LMC was transformed into a comfortable, cozy reading area where students and staff could curl up with a good book.

Thank you to all of the staff members who loaned chairs, pillows, etc. Thank you to the Language Arts teachers for bringing your classes into the LMC to participate in our Dr. Seuss celebration. Thank you to all the students who participated in our reading celebration!

Everyone enjoyed the celebration. Students were sad to see the chairs and pillows leave and the LMC return to its normal layout. I look forward to continuing the celebration for years to come.

If you would like to view more pictures from the event, please visit the LMC webpage (located under the Library/Learning Resources tab). Look for the LMC pics link on the left-hand side of the screen.
